j Background of the organization.
Many people approached to fulfill their needs Gender Based Violence - Desk and Mental Health Unit, Government base hospital Valaichenai in 2008. But, unfortunately, there were no sufficient facilities at units. Amount of People who affected by Gender Based Violence has been increasing due to available lack of facilities to care of people who affected gender based violence at GBV- Desk.
And services for affected people did not provide in proper way, therefore, people couldn’t rehabilitate and free from these issues. At the same time, people face many issues such as child abuse, domestic violence, drug addiction, sexual harassments, torture from armed groups, psychological issues, lack of education, unemployment, rape, kidnap and poverty in community of remote areas or war affected areas. People have been suffering from these issues without successful solution. In this context, both government and Non-government sectors concern with these issues. They introduced some schemes to solve these issues and government expected role of non-government organization to reduce these issues. In this sense, we like to joint and work with other workers in preventing these social issues.
Although efforts were taken to reduce such issues, those are undertaken in very limited area. A number of affected villages did not cover into these efforts. Concerning with this situation, we also interested to work against these social problems. In this sense, we tried to create an organization to work for change. In this effort, first of all, we identified individual workers who have experience in working for sustainable development and social change. And we were integrated and established a Non-governmental social based organization on 8th of March in 2008.
We established our organization under name of Eastern Social Development Foundation-Sri Lanka. After us organizing, we accelerated our works in community. On such occasion, we need legal acceptance for our activities, so we registered our organization under ministry of social services, eastern province.

Our vision is “Leading to a prosperous path for peace and development by fulfilling needs in fields of Gender Equality, Human Rights, Mental Health, Educational Development, Economical Development, Co-existence, and Social Enhancement among multi cultured people”.
K Overall Objective
Our objectives are to work under the topics of rehabilitation, playing a role in policy making and development on Gender Equality, Human Rights, Mental Health, Educational Development, Economical Development, Co-existence, and Social Enhancement through fulfilling needs and strengthening knowledge and skills development, collaboration with communities and Government sectors.
K Strategies
Making knowledgeable and healthful individuals within communities by providing awareness programmes, capacity building programmes and empowerment programmes and making individuals fighting to get all human rights including women’s rights and eradication all kind of social injustice through campaign establishing K5 Union and rehabilitation programmes.
K Our target groups
Our target groups are affected women by gender based violence, psychologically , torture and who are living under the poverty line in remote areas, women house doodled, psychiatry clients, affected children, preschool teachers and government seven.
